Butler House Bed & Breakfast
An Historic Bed and Breakfast Inn - West Union, Iowa

Thank you to all my guests.  The Butler House is no longer a bed and breakfast.

The Butler House Bed & Breakfast is located in West Union, Iowa, which is in the upper eastern corner of Iowa in the Fayette County seat,  at the intersection of Highways 150 and 18 (Vine Street) and seven miles north of the Upper Iowa University in Fayetteville.  Go to our directions page to map your route to our location.  When visiting Butler House please use our parking lot at the back of the house facing Hwy. 18.

Walter H. Butler built this wonderful Victorian home in 1891.  Walt' Butler came to West Union in 1875, and in 1890, at the age of 38, he was nominated for Representative in Congress for the Democratic party, and was elected over the much more experienced J. H. Sweeney by a slim margin.  He served one term and was defeated for reelection in 1892.  Very little is known about him after 1892, not to be forgotten, he had left his mark in the history of Iowa with this unique home.

Come and enjoy the many activities offered in the area or a relaxing getaway from the everyday stresses of life.  There are two golf courses, horseback riding within 10 miles, a casino in McGregor, 35-40 minutes away, many places to browse and shop, dining of all types, several parks, and lots of antique shopping.  Or spend a night at the Butler House after driving the Iowa Wine Trail, Upper Mississippi Wine Region.  Brochures and a list of some of the most notable places to see and things to do in the area are available.
